Suguru and Kyohei visit the Red Centre

September 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Suguru and Kyohei (former GV students who are taking the  Bar and Coffee Course at Cadet International College) recently visited Central Australia.

SUGURU: I went to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park from 14 to 17 of September. It was really beautiful and so mysterious. One night was a full moon – fantastic!

It was a long way from the Sunshine Coast. I took a 2 hour flight and then took a bus for 6 hours.

At Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) I saw this great rock change to 7 colours as the day passed from sunrise right through to sunset. At night we camped and slept under the stars and dingos barked.

KYOHEI: I went to the centre of Australia. After 6 hours on a bus I arrived at Uluru and King’s Canyon. It was very emotional. It was a very good experience for me and I want to go back to Uluru again someday.

Happy Birthday to Us

September 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Last week we celebrated our 1st birthday in Caloundra with Happy Birthday sung in English, Spanish, Koean and a few other languages. Of course we celebrated the Aussie way with beer and bangers (bangers = slang for sausages).

Thank you to all the people who have made the school great.  From GV we have our dedicated teachers and admin staff.  The support from CADET International College , particularly Karen, Alison, Loris and Glen, has been wonderful.  Thanks also to our great students – your smiling faces and eagerness give the GV staff a lot of satisfaction.

We start a second year at Global Village Caloundra with hopes of further expanding our academic programs, getting more students and of course having another year of fun.

Students had fun at the beach and we have the photos to prove it.

September 18, 2008 · 1 Comment

Normally we like to immerse our students in English, but last Tuesday our students got immersed in refreshing salt water.

Every few months we like to organise a trip to a local beach to talk with lifeguards about safety at Australian beaches. This time we visited Kings Beach and students listened to our local lifeguard give a short talk. Students were encouraged to ask for advice about swimming at our beaches and how to survive in the surf if they get into trouble.

When the serious part of the afternoon was over, students striped down to their bikinis or board shorts and cavorted in the small waves. Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and we all look forward to doing it again soon.

Our resident beautician, Ha Na, has been turning our already cute girls into covergirls with her amazing toolkit of professional make up. Ha Na is visiting Australia from Korea and is currently in Toni and Petta’s Pre Intermediate Class. She graduates on the 26th of September and will go to work picking fruit so she can get a second visa.

Balls up at GV Caloundra

September 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Michelle returns a big serve (left) and exhausted players return to class after a quick game.

It’s spring in Caloundra and the sun is shining. The volleyball has also come out of hibernation and being served up by players of all nationalities. The ping pong balls are also being served up in some pretty exciting matches, while students who want a more sedate lunchtime activity, are opting for a game of 8 ball. There are happy faces everywhere – spring is a great time to be in Caloundra!

A letter from Yula (former GV student)

How’s It going In CALOUNDRA? ^^

As you know I am in Melbourne to study TESOL. I am having fun here; all things are totally different and new, in particular it’s colder than the Sunshine Coast.  However, I always miss my hometown  Caloundra.  Wherever I go and when I meet new friends I always recommend  Caloundra^^ especialy GV.  I want many other students to know GV Caloundra so that they can enjoy the happiness that I had there .

That’s why I will send you one of my friends from Korea. I proudly recommended GV to her. She is coming in the middle of September. but, she dosn’t know anything. How to apply, how  much  accommodation is etc  .

I trust you to help my friend and await your reply.

P.S: I especially want my friend to study with PATTY^^but I suppose it all depends on her level^^

I will probably be back in Caloundra in the middle of December with my 3 sisters & brothers.  I will show everything to them.

See yaa, YULA

Schbella update

September 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Mark and Karen Schebella, who taught the Elementary class in 2007, recently returned to Caloundra after travelling through Asia and Europe. Their trip got off to a great start and they enjoyed Vietnam and Thailand, but unfortunately Karen got extremely sick while they were in the Czech Republic and they have been forced to return to Australia to recover.

Karen plans to stay around for a few weeks until her grandchild arrives while Mark will return to the historic city of Pilsner in the Czech Republic for a job teaching English to people working in the IT industry. And also sampling their devine Pilsner beer no doubt.

We wish them all the best and look forward to the next update from them.
