The Noosa Jazz Festival is back!

Bigger and better than ever, the 2010 festival promises to be an exciting weekend of musical entertainment with quality performers, unique market stalls and mouth watering food outlets.

Jazz Festival organisers would like to take this opportunity and invite you to register as a volunteer at this year’s event. They are currently looking for enthusiastic, friendly and reliable people to join our team and to be a part of what promises to be a rewarding and exciting four days.

In return for your services you will receive a volunteer pack consisting of an official Noosa Jazz Festival 2010 volunteer t-shirt as well as 2 x day tickets to a festival day of your choice.

If you are still in Australia on the first weekend in September then this is a great opportunity for you to meet new people, gain experience, have some fun and attend the festival for FREE!!!!

QLD Air Museum Open Cockpit Weekend

Sit in the cockpit of the legendary Spitfire *

Open Cockpit Weekend is QAM’s annual fundraising event which is held on the middle weekend of the Queensland July school holidays. As the name suggests, the cockpits of several aircraft are opened for public inspection. Museum visitors are invited to actually sit in the cockpits of selected aircraft. Some of the larger aircraft, for example our 1937 vintage Douglas DC-3, are also opened up so that visitors can experience an aisle that goes uphill, sit in the cabin and see what air travel was like in days gone by.

The museum is in Caloundra, admission is $11 for Adults and $8 for Students. For more information see Maddy at Reception.

Tribal Travel host Tribal Night every Monday at Irish Murphy’s in Noosa Junction.

Kayley from Tribal Travel runs the Tribal Nights, and is always there to make new students feel welcome. Come in a group, or come alone and meet new people. Feel free to speak to Kayley during the night with any travel questions you have. She’s always happy to help and can offer you invaluable advice about local tours, Australia, New Zealand or Fiji.

Red Nose Day Picnic in the Park

Next Friday is Red Nose Day

This is an anual event which raises money for SIDS and Kids. This organisation is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood.

For you it means PARTY TIME!!!

There will be a picnic in Cotton Tree Park (some beer will be provided!) but you are more then welcome to bring along more of your own drinks.

The only catch is that you must be wearing a red nose!

You can purchase red noses from many shops in Sunshine Plaza including Target, Best and Less, Crazy Clarks and Big W. They are only $2 to buy. You might also like to wear red clothes to really get into it the party mood. If you need some help finding a red nose come and see Maddy.

The picnic will start at 3.30 in Cotton Tree Park.

Maroochydore Orientation Day

Last week’s orientation day was a big success; students loved their new school and are looking forward to starting there next week.

If you don’t believe me read what these students had to say about it:

The afternoon picnic in Cotton Tree park was also a highlight, students can look forward to many more BBQ’s and activities by the calm beach. Students were also happy to discover that there is a little more nightlife around Maroochydore with some not arriving home till 4am!

We can’t wait to see you all on Tuesday morning at our brand new school!

World Environment Day Celebration

The Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival (30th Anniversary) is a free community festival celebrating World Environment Day in the region of the Sunshine Coast; running into its 30th anniversary celebration, the Festival provides a multiplicity of environment related activities. These include short film, speakers forums, Green Biz (corporate) Expo, Low CO2 displays, Farmer’s Market, Transition Town, Main stage entertainment of world music, youth and Indigenous performances, Children’s area, interactive and Ecology workshops, Youth Chill out zone and much, much more!

Public transport is easy to catch from Caloundra to the University of the Sunshine Coast. If you havent been to see the university yet this is a great opportunity, plus you might be lucky enough to meet some of the local kangaroos that live on and around the university grounds.

There will plenty to see and do, the festival runs from 9am till 4pm.

Orientation Day Information

This Thursday the 3rd of June is Orientation Day at our new Maroochydore campus. Morning classes will be as usual and all students who are going to Maroochydore are expected to be in class till lunchtime. A bus will be leaving Caloundra campus at 12.30pm, students should be waiting outside the reception area. We will arrive at Maroochydore at approximately 1.15pm and start a tour of the new Maroochydore School. One student from each class will be nominated to choose their new classroom.

After the tour students will make there way to Cotton Tree Park for a late BBQ lunch, kayaking on the Maroochy River, soccer game and beach volleyball. Students may wish to bring a light lunch or snack to have earlier as the BBQ will not be till approximately 2pm.

After the BBQ finishes a 5pm bus will be taking the students who nominated to return to Caloundra earlier back to the Caloundra Campus. The students who decided to stay on for student night activities will stay on with Maddy. If you are staying later you must bring money to buy your own dinner (there are plenty of places that are inexpensive) and also money for your own alcoholic drinks. There is a bottle shop close by if you wish to purchase your own. Students will start the night playing some fun drinking games before heading to Beach House Bar and Grill and the Pig ‘n’ Whistle for cheap drink specials and karaoke followed by student night at Club Envy.

The final bus will pick up students at 11pm outside of Club Envy, if students wish to stay on they must find their own transport home.

Friday Fun in the Sun!

This Friday afternoon’s activity was a test of athletic and linguistic skills in the summer sunshine.

The temperature was hot and the competition even hotter as teams participated in the GV Caloundra Pentathlon, five events which tested teamwork, enthusiasm and communication skills.

Events included charades, the egg and spoon race and, most challenging of all, a race in which all members of each team had to pass an onion between one another without using their hands, which led to some pretty funny results!

When the points were added up at the end of the afternoon, the Crocs team were declared the winners and celebrated with a well-earned, ice-cold six-pack!

Well done to everyone who took part – have a great weekend!

Australia Day Celebrations
