Teachers at Andy’s farewell drinks last night were delighted to be served by Andrea…

Andrea has been working at Don’s for about 5 months now, first working in food preparation and then moving to her current waitressing job. Andrea prefers her current role as it’s a bit less stressful than in the kitchen, and she has the added bonus of having plenty of opportunity for English practice.
Andrea found her job simply by dropping her resume in and chatting to Clyde, the owner – proving that there’s no better way to find work than getting out there and visiting lots of shops!
Thanks for looking after us, Andrea – it was a great night.
(The Don is a great little bar, by the way. Take advantage of their $10 pizzas, grab a beer and watch the surf rolling onto Bribie Island. Just lovely!)

After class on Friday I was glad to see two ex-Global students, Aki (left) and Kyohei (right), walk into my office.
Kyohei, has been working in Bundaberg for 3 months and was working 7 days a week in the peak time. He was picking capsicums and tomatoes in the hot summer sun. He stayed in a share house with Yan and Jennifer (also former Caloundra students – now picking in Stanthorpe, Queensland) and had a great time especially at the pub on Friday night because Friday was pay day.
Aki is living in Brisbane at the moment. Today he was in Caloundra looking for work and has been promised a job in February, so we should see more of his smiling face at the campus.
Good luck guys.

It was nearly a year ago when Joel came to Caloundra with his best friend Max. At about the same time Lucy came to study here.
Joel and Lucy got to know each other in class and ended up travelling to Ayr, in Northern Queensland, to pick vegetables for 3 months. They went to Sydney after that, then returned to Korea.
Last week they came back to Caloundra because they were missing us and the Caloundra lifestyle.
When I asked them about their future plans, they said they would be opening a restaurant in Korea and eventually settling down on the Gold Coast.
GOOD LUCK!

Hi everyone,
How are you?! I still work in Charleville. This week is very bad, because I cut my finger at the work by machine, and my friend too. You know what? The same day, we both cut our finger by the same machine. My injury is not too serious, but my friend has really hurt himself badly.
I will still be in Charleville until 20th December and then I’ll go to Byron Bay and Sydney for Christmas and New Year and then I will come back Charleville and keep working at the factory until 8th March.. Then I will go to Melbourne, Tasmania and Perth for other jobs.
I wish everyone a happy Christmas & New Year.
Evan (former GV Caloundra student from Taiwan)

Patty set her class a writing assignment and she was so impressed by the work the students produced that she asked them if they would like to have their work published on the school’s blog. So please read and feel free to leave a comment.
RENAT SAYS:
“You choose not only your career; you choose your future. A wrong choice can’t ruin your life, you can always change everything and start once again, but it is better not to make a mistake. Choose your career very carefully. Remember, no one can do this for you. It’s your future; it must be your choice from your own hand. Parents must understand and support their children. Parents can help you to choose your way, but they can’t push you against yourself.”
JUAN SAYS:
“Choosing a career is a personal decision that has to be based on your own interests. However it is important that you listen to other people’s opinion, your parents, friends, teachers from high school and everyone that you consider important to you. When you think that you have heard enough go somewhere and spend some time with your thoughts and put your ideas in order and make your own decision.”

Student – Teacher relationships have to be one of the best parts of teaching. Friendships are formed and nurtured: experiences shared and memories treasured when in years to come we remember the ‘good old times’.
This campus opened September 07 and since then we have had the opportunity to meet and, in time, farewell wonderful students who joined us and became part of our school and little community.
When the time comes it is always sad to say goodbye, but, thankfully quite a lot of you keep in touch via email and some of you even visit.
Last week David returned to GV Caloundra to farewell us before he headed back to Korea. David was one of the first students to study with us here at this campus, so it was a touching gesture that he made his way from Sydney to say goodbye. I’m sure I can speak for Andy, Vivien, Spanish and Tanya as well, when I say: how wonderful it was to see David again and how much we will miss him.
So, I would like to say a special thank you: to all the students who think of us, who stop by to see us again before they leave and to all the students who email and send photos, including us in their lives by letting us know how they are and what they’re doing. We appreciate it!
Patty Thomas.

Hello, I’ve been busy recently.
I thought I would get a farm job easily as long as I went to Bundaberg before I came here but the weather wasn’t good this year so some of farming areas have smaller crops of vegetables than usual. Bundaberg’s workers hostels arrange jobs but some of hostels don’t have enough jobs for workers at this time. The hostel where I stay in sometime has a few people on standby for work so I’m lucky to get job.
Anyway thank you letting me know about the job on Fraser Island but unfortunately I’m going to north after I get a scuba diving license. I’ll go to the Town of 1770, Airlie Beach, the Whitsunday Islands, Townsville and then Cairins. I wasn’t interested in the Whitsunday Islands before I came to Australia, but when I was staying in Caloundra some people recommended those islands so now I really fancy going there. I told someone I met on the road about this need to go to the Whitsundays and they said the reason why I must go there is because my soulmate (future husband!?) must be waiting for me there – so I really have to go. I hope I’ll find a job around there. See you!

Hello Patty! Andy! Karen! Mark! and Alll!!
How are you all?!
I am always fine! I am at DayDream Island with Yula and Jason.
Even though I have spent great time here at DDI, I always miss Caloundra which is my second hometown. Actually it’s my first one in Australia and I feel sorry for not contacting with my teacher Patty and my homestay parents Mark and Karen.
Say hello to everyone
I’ll be there someday, It won’t be long!
